Greetings!

Berry season has arrived. Our favorite patch of wild blackberries, brambleberries to some, is ripe. Time to fight the birds for each delicious morsel.

This season's lead recipe is a dreamy raspberry pie that packs a wallop of chocolate under a demure berry and cream topping. (The pie shell coated with Chocolate Schmear would be delicious filled with ice cream too.) For the picnic basket, you might be tempted by the oatmeal bar studded with raisins and aromatic Cinnamon Schmear.

FROM OUR RECIPE BOX - Raspberry Cream Mud Pie

Raspberry Cream Mud Pie
Summer means berries - berry shortcake, berry pies and berry ice cream. This pie is a favorite because of the way the dominant flavors combine. There's the tang of raspberries mellowed by cream followed by the burst of chocolate, a memorable way to end a meal. Using all fresh berries is ideal but for convenience we've also come up with a way to use some fresh and some frozen fruit. (Use the unthawed frozen berries inside the pie and the more costly fresh berries on top.) This pie would work well with blackberries or sliced strawberries.

FROM OUR RECIPE BOX- Cinnamon Swirl Oatmeal and Raisin Bars

Cinnamon Swirl Oatmeal Bars

Whether packing a picnic or lunchbox, these bars are an ideal choice. The combination of oats and raisins makes them chewy and moist. The chocolate and cinnamon swirls make them a little bit special and addicting. Substitute diced dried apricots, currants, dry cherries or a combination for the raisins. These bars could also be coated with chocolate icing. Once cut, store the bars in a tightly sealed container in the freezer. They are a handy treat to have on hand for a last minute dessert (with ice cream or grilled fruit) and will keep for several weeks.
